New Director of Operations named as Faculty staff roles shift

A new Director of Operations has been appointed to the Faculty of Science to replace Terry Croft, who leaves the role at the end of September.

Michelle Nolan will join the Faculty in mid-November from Sheffield Hallam University, where she is currently she is currently the Head of Professional Services in the Faculty of Development and Society.

She has worked at the University of Sheffield in the past, in Planning, Corporate Partnerships and Research and Innovation Services.

Terry, meanwhile, will remain at the University is his other role as Director of Technical Development and Modernisation, leading a HEFCE-funded project to support technical careers.

Chris Smith will also be working on the project, dividing his time between it and his current role as Head of IT and Communications.

Elsewhere in the communications team, Robert Cooke, Communications Officer, will be working for two days a week on the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures, announced this week.

Meanwhile, the Faculty’s Process Change Manager, Lisa Firth, will be working one day a week on the Student Systems Project, which is looking at how the University can improve the way it delivers services to students.

There are a few other changes happening in September too:

  • Claire Kennedy will be joining the Finance Team as Research Finance Manager
  • In HR, Katrina Gillett will be taking maternity leave from 10 September – Sarah Pinder and Mike Wright will be joining the team to fill the gaps left by her and Nicky Hall, who has left for a period of adoption leave
  • Simon Butler, Center Manager for METRC, will start a new job for CATCH in ScHARR on September 1

Then in November, Head of Knowledge Exchange and Manager of Sheffield Science Gateway Dr Phil Waywell will leave Sheffield to take a post in Leeds. The process of filling the existing Business Development Manager vacancies in Sheffield Science Gateway is already underway.
