Postgraduate researcher in the running for photography award

pea-aphidA postgraduate researcher has been shortlisted for a photography award that aims to showcase some of the best biological research.

David Hopkins, who’s PhD is being supervised by Dr Duncan Cameron in Animal and Plant Sciences, entered his photo ‘Wired For Life’ in the BBSRC Images With Impact competition.

It is one of six images to be shortlisted in the Student Division of the competition and is now subject to a public vote for the winner.

There is also a Public Division and a BBSRC Researcher Division. The deadline for casting votes is Friday 31 October.

Vote in Images With Impact

David’s image shows a pea aphid wired up to an electronic penetration graph, which is used to record aphid feed behaviour using electrical currents.

Images with Impact: the Great British Bioscience Image Competition is part of the BBSRC’s 20th anniversary celebrations and the winners in each category will be awarded £400.

They will then go head to head at the Great British Bioscience Festival in London, where visitors will decide who will be the overall winner.
