Staff and students in the Faculty of Science took home several trophies from the Academic Awards held last night at the Students’ Union.

Based on student votes, the annual awards celebrate the people who go out of their way to make sure all students have an excellent experience of education at the University of Sheffield.

Departments in the Faculty of Science were represented in the nominations shortlist in several categories, and came out on top in four:

  • Best Feedback Award: Professor Peter Artymiuk, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
  • Best Student Involved in Learning and Teaching/Student Experience: Kim Wilson, Biomedical Science
  • Best Postgraduate Teacher Award: Julia Hülsken, Psychology
  • Best Staff Student Committee Award: Molecular Biology and Biotechnology

Categories where Faculty of Science staff were nominated were:

  • Best Personal Tutor Award: Dr Donatella Zona, Animal and Plant Sciences
  • Employability Award: Dr Simon Jones, Chemistry
  • Think Global Award for Internationalisation in Learning and Teaching: Jenna Spencer-Briggs, Chemistry

The Inspiration & Co Award was given to Professor Elena Rodriguez-Falcon, but the Faculty of Science came close here too, as two of our lecturers were voted by students to give Inspiration & Co talks earlier this year.
